3 of the vmx tests (3a-04.c, 3a-04m.c, and 3a-05.c) fail on different powerpc machines because the test relies on the Vector 2 Raised to the Exponent Estimate and Vector Reciprocal Estimate instructions producing the exact same bit value for each machine. Since these instructions are estitmate functions, different implementations of the powerpc architecture produce different results. Floating point equality should never have been used for these tests.
I have patches to change the test to see whether the value produces is accurate to 4 decimal digits using greater than and less than tests, which I will attach shortly. -- Summary: vmx tests fail due to reliance on floating point equality Product: gcc Version: 4.4.0 Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: testsuite AssignedTo: unassigned at gcc dot gnu dot org ReportedBy: meissner at linux dot vnet dot ibm dot com GCC build triplet: powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu GCC host triplet: powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu GCC target triplet: powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=39769
