minimalist Windows executables for GDAL 1.6.0, built by Frank W when GDAL
1.6.0 was released. Is there any possibility you could offer similar
binaries of 1.6.2 or the

would be demanding for the users, by taking out the significant
components it would be unusable for most of the users.
I just wanted to mention it's quite straightforward exclude xerces
support and recompile gdal, by

to work around Xerces binary conflicts?

In what concerns TheMathWorks (Matlab), it's not only xercers that you
must worry about but also netCDF, zlib1 and very likely some others. For
example many ML releases used an old, or not compatible, zlib1.dll that
simply got in the way and screwed everything. Now they are more modern
