I mentioned these at the freedog meeting, digikey finally has them
(but you have to search by part number since they're not in the
category tree yet). These take 16-28 gauge wire, 3.5mm pitch, and
need no side access or tools.

It just appeared to me that the 20060822 manual was an old copy updated
to new version number by sourceforge following real code updates. It
seemed this way because the manual doesn't make any mention of "HID".
Not sure if this is off-base.
