As a "learn PCB internals" project I've written an Autocrop() plugin.
It finds the extents of your existing board and resizes the board to
contain only your parts plus a margin.
There are some issues that I can't resolve from a plugin:
1) Board size has no Undo function, so while Undo will put y
While working on a plugin I found a reproduce case for the
"Undo bad serial number" message. The easiest way is to load a board
that was saved with an element selected, click anywhere to deselect that
element, then 'undo' to try to reselect it. The message will pop out.

As mentioned earlier, this seems to be the week of refdes renumbering
scripts. I submitted mine as a patch on Sourceforge and it is
