Hi Guys,
My Win 2k Program does the same thing. It says the monitor scan speed
isn't correct, but I don't know how to change that. :-( I just have to move
the
mouse and the screen becomes normal again. Not much help, huh?
Respectfully,

I'm curious what you guys think about OpenOffice vs. Office and even vs.
Google Office.

Here is what I use, for what, and why:
I use OpenOffice Write for basic docs because of the export to pdf
feature, but often times it is just as easy to use Google's doc writer
for this. I use Word when I need reliable TOC and formatting and
latex when I need serious control over formatting and
Open Office is better than Office but both are quirky and I would not use
either for a big job. For quick one or two page papers with graphics, Open
Office does the job on GNU/Linux with less hardware than a comparable
Microsoft system. I miss Word Perfect, which was easier and more reliable
Why do you feel that OpenOffice is better than Microsoft Office?

I would never say that OOo is better than MSO. I don't believe that
OOo is any lighter than MSO; in fact, since OOo is closer,
feature-wise to Office97, one could argue that OOo is far more
bloated. (One, in this instance, would not be me. ;))
Now, I'm not dogging OOo one bit. In fact, I love it.
...and what is up with the article referring to Corel as 'dirt cheap'?
According to the link they provide, it's $270. Dirt cheap for a car,
maybe. MS Office 2007 Standard is $350.
And does anyone else feel like Outlook is out of place in an office
suite? Every other app is about creating
I'm not exactly a power office user. My windows box has Word95, and
only once have I had to resort to a later version to do something needed,
making text flow around a graphic for a business card for my wife.
I can't imagine wanting to be dependent on a web based system, living

Outlook Express just manages email. With full Outlook, you get contacts
and calendaring (and other junk), which is more fitting in an office
suite.. Add the collaboration that you mention, and boom that's what
users want.

Don't forget the fact that Outlook stores all emails(and other junk) in a
single small file. Apparently, this is the most safe and secure way to store
your email.

No, I know that Outlook is a full PIM and whatnot. Thankfully, I don't
use it anymore (got fed up with 20MB mailbox limit at work, so Gmail
checks it via POP now). And I understand that the functionality it
offers is important in an office environment. It just seems like the
odd man out, and that
I would emphasize small single file with outlook.
Anyone with outlook.pst file at around 1Gb is about to loose them all.
(E-mails, I mean)
I have encountered this limitation multiple times, last time was
actually 2 days ago. Temporary solution was to move some older mails to
and
Outlook is really the centerpiece of the Office suite for Microsoft. Not
just as a technology component, but also in workflow for the user.

Actually, you can buy it separately. As far as I know, you can buy each
piece of the Microsoft Office Suite as an individual product. Only if
you buy the Suite do you get it all. :)

You are right about that limit. I say limit rather than limitation
because it's artificial. Microsoft wants you to move to Exchange if you
are handling a lot of email, so PSTs can only get so large.
At least that's what I've heard. :)

I was being sarcastic. The only reason why I use outlook is because of the
la.gov offline mail requirement. I migrated my domain to Google Apps. But
really prefer all my emails coming into one client. I think MS has made some
improvements with Outlook 2007.
Personally I like mutt with maildir.
Is that some kind of cruel joke, Karthik? I used to love Outlook at Entergy,
but safe and secure it was not! Corruption of that file happened so often
that people there kept their important and current work on floppies.
All of those features have been reproduced by KDE with atomized file
I thought so, but you might have known something that I don't. Good joke. ;)

Mostly because it's cheaper, lighter and does the same job sometimes better,
