am I wrong or the vnc package does only provide a viewer, not a server?
and net-misc/xf4vnc
wouldn't it be nice to have also mplayer-bin to run wmv codecs? :)

I followed the instructions at
gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AMD_64 and then I could play wmv files.
But I don't know why it worked only for the first 10 minutes! :(
After rebooting, when I try to see a wmv video with mplayer32 I get this

Re-emerging mplayerlibs solved the problem.
As told by mplayer32 mantainer, some other emul-* packages provide the
same library as emul-*mplayerlibs, so maybe it was due to a conflict.

have you seen if in syslog you get a segfault?
I get the same error, and the problem is that xvnc is segfaulting.
cheers

When I asked the same, some time ago, I've been told to use vnc.

does anyone knows why is it still masked?
(the same goes for obexftp, it seems not supported on gentoo amd64 but
compiles fine)

do a search for SMP stuff and disable it.

what do you do exactly to build the kernel?
(which grub line?)

you should also copy the bzImage file from arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage to
/boot/something
(I don't know if make install would do the same)
And also the System.map

Hi
I've a simple question, not really AMD64 specific: why net.lo does not
provide "net"?
I'm asking this because last week at home I couldn't run apache2
because I didn't have an interface up but lo. But this is silly,
because I could still use apache2 locally!
Am I wrong? Is my system wrong?

working pretty fine!

Hi
I've a lazy x86 xeon server doing nothing, and I would like to use
that as a compile server for my poor amd64 laptop.
Following the guide, I issued the command
crossdev -t x86_64 --g 3.4.6-r1 --b 2.16.1-r2 --l 2.4-r1 --k 2.6.16-r4
It works fine until glibc

Hi
Last week gcc 4.1.1 got unmasked.
Someone of you already upgraded?
I did it this week, and actually I'm having troubles with Boinc and Gaim.
Gaim has stopped working just this morning, as I recompiled glibc with gcc4. :(
Anyone had the same experience?
thanks

Works fine here. Have you followed the upgrade guide for gcc -
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-upgrading.xml
Yes I did so!
Just found out that Gaim was crashing maybe for some other reason,
because deleting .gaim made it work again.
I'll dig more for boinc_gui crash.
thanks

I'm trying to upgrade a x86 distcc host for crossdev from gcc 3.4 to 4.1.1.
When I run crossdev to compile gcc I get the following error in the logs:

Do you have the same gcc version on all hosts?
I have distcc on my laptop and on my work server. I use this last one
to compile laptop stuff. I was using distcc with gcc3.4, now I'm
trying to install gcc 4.1.1 on the server but it's returning this
error.
One other thing, based on the error...
Did you try without confcache?
What do you mean? I don't have confcache installed nor ccache.
That error does ring a bell, but I don't
really remember what I did to resolve it...
no :)
thanks

Disabling fortran should be a workaround, you probably won't
need it anyway. And whether fortran is present or not shouldn't have any
influence on distcc.
I guessed so. But, as I wrote in reply to Duncan, package.use didn't
have any effect since it's rewritten every time you run crossdev.

Hi
I have aircrack installed on my system. As I wrote last week, I
switched to gcc4 so did an emerge -e world. Bad surprise, aircrack is
not compiling anymore. I tried switching back to gcc3.4.6 but yet the
same problem.
Does anyone of you experience the same?
Thanks

Yes. You are not alone with this problem:

Damn, I searched bugs.gentoo.org on friday :-P
Try aircrack-ng.
Does the same...
Aircrack-ng is developed by the same author of aircrack?

after a fresh boot, with only gdm running, mplayer works fine. in ssh
shell or via gnome-terminal using vnc.
Maybe it's really Xgl related.
I'll do further tests when I have time.
