If that doesn't help, check your actual disk performance, if the disks
in the server aren't fast, no NFS optimizations are going to help you.

I have no idea about FreeBSD and its performance, but looking at your numbers, I
think it is rather your hd (on any of the boxes you connect) than NFS. What hds
