python.eclass and distutils.eclass are now officially deprecated. Please do not add new ebuilds with these eclasses if possible.
Note that they have been unofficially deprecated for several months now. They do not support python3.4+, and bugs are not generally being fixed. the python team has converting ebuilds to the python-r1 family as we encounter them. I do not have any estimated date for removal; it will not happen until the gentoo repostory has been cleaned up at the earliest.
