I used to run a RedHat 8 server (that hadn't really been updated for three
years due to the hassle of RPMS) with Sendmail and SMTPS.
I finally took the plunge and setup a new Gentoo server this past weekend. I
was told to use Exim (or anything but sendmail). Everything is generally
working except

Hello my friend...
Run both of these:
# fix_libtool_files.sh 3.3.4 (assuming you're running GCC v3.3.4)
# /usr/portage/dev-lang/perl/files/perl-cleaner
You updated GCC most likely and so things are a little out of synch.
I don't know why the GCC ebuild doesn't run 'fix_libtool_files.sh 3.3.4'
PHP5 has SQL lite built in. that might be enough for your RDBMS needs. And
isn't 'tux' httpd built into the kernel, so maybe that is something to
investigate

I finally figured out why portage keeps fluctuating between upgrading and
downgrading these packages. It seems that every time I upgrade system or
world, it isn't the right version. *sigh*
I added '-t' to my emerge and discovered a package that isn't in my keywords
file.
daevid edb # emerge -Davu
I used to have postfix installed from my default Gentoo install. Then I
switched to Exim. However, I keep getting this after the occasional emerge.

ally got pretty worried
that Evolution had screwed up the IMAP folder, but thankfully I dual booted
back into WinXP and Outlook is showing them properly, so it must be a
cosmetic issue with Evolution.

I'm not sure if this is is how Evolution v2.0.3 is supposed to work or
not, but it seems kinda silly. Maybe there is some checkbox I need to
enable, but I can't find it.
Anyways, I have a filter setup that turns mail from me "Daevid" to blue
color. simple enough right? Well, it only works when I s
I'm trying to emerge this as part of an "emerge -Davu system"
sys-devel/libtool-1.5.10-r4 [1.5.10-r3] (-uclibc) 0 kB
however, as you can see, it is failing. the problem is exacerbated
because I can't seem to emerge many other packages as they're all trying
to pull this on in too. "locate aclocal"
I have a Dell i8200 notebook that uses the "snd_intel8x0" sound driver.
I use KDE and that uses ALSA. There is this little "applet" that is
called "aRts Control". I think it's supposed to be a little audio meter,
but more importantly, it's supposed to be a volume control. It doesn't

Or you could just go to a used computer store and pick up a SBLive for like
$10 and save a load of headaches.

I would have bailed on Gentoo long ago if it weren't for this life saver.
Last time I tried, the ebuild was broken (and out of date) -- very very
dissapointing.
However, you can get the source (0.9.4) and compile it very easily.

New to Gentoo, recently switching from RedHat8. I'm having all kinds of
issues with 2.6.3 kernel and Grub. I have a Dell i8200 notebook w/ Nvidia

I can compile the 2.6.3 kernel no problem. I move it to /boot and edit
grub.conf. I am NOT using initrd. My root=/dev/hda3

2.0Ghz with 640MB RAM is just maddening, frustrating and ridiculous. I
thought Gentoo was supposed to use the binaries when it can? Surely someone
else out there has compiled KDE, X, etc. for a Pentium4 class machine... Why
isn't emerge getting them for me?!
