Strange, I just emerge'd mplayer no problem.
Try deleting /usr/portage/distfiles/MPlayer-0.92.tar.bz2

I've now gotten to the step in the install process where I need to
install my kernel. I ran 'emerge -k sys-kernel/ck-sources' and
configured it. When I go to 'make dep' however I get the errors:

I've followed the installation directions up to 'emerge sync'. After I
run that I get a message that says I need to update portage. So I
'emerge portage'. The problem is that it is now frozen on the 'checking
