How Can I make that route available afther reboot?

I am new to Gentoo. I was trying to install
Gentoo 1.4 rc3 on my Dell Latitude C800. I tried booting up with
the:
gentoo-3stages-x86-1.4_rc3.iso
gentoo-basic-x86-1.4_rc3.iso
In both cases, the network card (Xircom CardBus
Ethernet 10/100+Mode 56) is not recognized. I tried the steps
/usr/portage is empty. I don't see a scripts
directory. All I see is a 0 byte .keep file.
