greets to all who are wise and curious!
something strange is going on, I can't see why gentoo wants to emerge
the ck-sources, I am not using them (at least not now and ummerged them)
but still:
# emerge world -up | grep source
[ebuild N] sys-kernel/ck-sources-2.4.22-r2
# grep source

Thanks for the advice. Tried it, but it didn't work. Even reinstalling

Greetings Gentooers!
While doing an emerge world -UD it fails on t1lib:
Hmmm. It appears that t1lib has an optional dependancy on tetex (which is a

How do I force it to install things from the world file?

Also on one final note, I think Daniel and crowed have a great attitude,

I shall rant no longer.

thought it would have updated cups too but..
# emerge cups -p
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuildU ] net-print/cups-1.1.18-r5 [1.1.18-r4]
Is there a problem or have I mis-understood what portage does?

! interesting.. you have explained the issue with cups...
I did notice this same thing with nmap though, which I know i specificly
merged and didn't show up in an emerge -up world.
Is there a way to get portage to show updates for anything and
everything installed on the system ?
thx.

When you installed CUPS in the first place, did you emerge it
specificially, or was it installed as a dependency for another package.
If I recall correctly, only apps that you emerge specifically are added
to your world
