Sorry for the waste of bandwidth, the LVM stuff IS on the CD. For some reason I didn't think to actually FIND it the first time, I just typed the commands and since they didn't work I assumed it wasn't there (and we all know what happens when you assume). I don't know why it didn't work at the time, as it's working like a freaking charm now.
So, in case anyone else is attempting to do the same thing, the LVM user scripts are on the CD's, at least they are on the basic LiveCD that I'm using. Sorry again for the "clueless newbie" question, you'd think after almost a decade I'd have learned. I think the install is going to go just fine this time.
