I've been working with Gentoo Prefix/Portage on a Mac Powerbook G4 for the
past few weeks, and other than a few minor glitches easily rectified, I'm
extremely happy with the way it works and works well.
I do have a few minor questions concerning the appearance of updates to
ebuilds, as well as how

I recently "renewed" a friend's old Quicksilver G4 power PC, and forced an
install of system 10.5.8 on it. I started installing from scratch a Gentoo
Prefix, and built up to GD and ImageMagick (and their requirements) since I use
them in graphics programming.
I'm running "~arch" (testing mode)
