Here is how I do to avoid the nvidia-drivers/nvidia-settings
upgrade/downgrade game since its started.
On my system, old nvidia-settings-331.20 is installed, and latest
stable nvidia-drivers.
At each system update I do (and will do this until it will be
resolved) :
