A small suggestion: could tools/geos-config.in be changed by adding -lstdc++ to --static-clibs (and possibly --static-cclibs, but we haven't needed this). We do need static-clibs to be -L${libdir} -lgeos_c -lgeos -lm -lstdc++; Tomas Kalibera is working hard to automate static builds of R

I don't care what the word is, but in my view a release which makes the massive change of dropping automake can't really be called beta, so I think we need to view this as more alpha like. I'll try to get to converting the package to cmake and testing soon, but it may take until Monday when it

Another issue, this one cause by the switch to CMake. The autotools build resulted in libgeos-X.Y.Z.so, which was also its SONAME, and the libgeos.so symlink to it. The cmake builds results in libgeos.so.X.Y.Zpre, which is also its SONAME, and the libgeos.so symlink to it. The pre-release word
