Hmmm... I think it would be simpler to just have GeoServer override the AbstractFeatureTypeBinding (I think it might already) and check the configuration directly to see if feature bounds should be output. But if we think that having the option directly in GeoTools is worth the additional work

Yep - as I said I should have been more paranoid. Again, you are correct, its not an ideal solution for production, but to allow people to adopt (and hence resource) Geoserver as an option because they can test the other 95% of the functionality while a bug is fixed, or support a couple of feature
