I could not reproduce the failure on the latest master, OS X 10.15.7, openjdk 11.0.5, so this appears to be (at least somewhat) environment-specific. If it's a font issue, it may be related to the specific fonts installed on the test system. It may also be related to the Java version, as Travis is
