My first idea was quite simple, something like collecting buttons into one
menu or dialog or something similar.
I still not analysed deeply such kind of improvement (even because my
artistic capacity is not very good), but the idea would be to start some
discussion based on mockups in the future.
how did the aesthetic work out? would be good to make sure everyone is
happy before updating screen snaps.

Yes you can, the GSIP was approved, and with the RC out master is available
for new functionality.
Thanks for doing this, it looks like this will allow GeoServer to be better
integrated.
