Sorry, but this isn't how it works at all. Using multiple FeatureTypeStyles is an important technique in SLD - it is the only way to control rendering order at the level of entire rules, rather than individual features. GeoServer, however, doesn't use NamedLayer names or anything else to identify

ah ok. if its not working for postgis at all then remove the *50 until its working in the simplest case. are you sure its seeing the height.kml file, maybe try making a description.ftl to observe that working to see if its even the right place. also try capitalising 'cat', and/or changing 'cat
