I have a project in QGIS that I am trying to publish using GeoServer via the
plugin.
When I try and publish a layer I get:

maybe you can have a permission problem :

make you sure that the user that runs geoserver (tomcat?) can write and
read in the data directory.
If permission are ok, check the workspaces and styles directories inside
the dat
