on studying XML features.
Geoserver’s sql views were an option but I wanted to resolve this one inside
the SLD.

The XML parser will eat spare spaces even inside literals but if you wrap
it in a block it should survive the parser.

A solution could be to use a layer based on SQL View to replace this empty
value by something you can use in SLD.
