Hi Steve,

thank you for your suggestion. Yes, I'm using the GeoFence plugin and after
deleting the xercesImpl-2.12.2.jar file in the lib folder of GeoServer, the
errors are gone. As far as I could see GeoFence is working normally without
this JAR file. But how would I find out if it is save to remove it permanantly?

By the way, I'm running the 64-bit JRE of Temurin 17.0.11+9.

Regards
Daniel

Try searching your Tomcat directory for a xercesImpl jar file and removing it
if it's there. Do you have either the Printing or GeoFence Server extensions
installed? I did a quick grep search and those are the only two modules that
explicitly include xercesImpl.

is there anybody who could tell if this is expected behaviour or a side effect

Subject: WMS broken after GeoServer Update (SAXException)

Hi,

I updated my GeoServer (Tomcat 9/Windows Server) from 2.24.2 to 2.25.0 and now
I can't preview WMS layers. The error message is:
"java.lang.reflect.UndeclaredThrowableExceptionorg.xml.sax.SAXException: Entity
resolution disallowed for null". The same message is shown when I try to
validate an SLD stylesheet. I copied the full stack trace to a file and
attached it to this message. I also reverted back to the data dir included in
the 2.25.0 release and can reproduce the error f.e. with the 'point' style.

I now found out that when I'm starting GeoServer with the
-DENTITY_RESOLUTION_ALLOWLIST=* parameter, the error is gone. Although this
parameter shouldn't be necessary because the styles are only containing
references to
www.opengis.net<https://urldefense.us/v3/__http:/www.opengis.net__;!!JRQnnSFuzw7wjAKq6ti6!xRAMWzeOSsebbxo_wxj6cFXfmiFO-3sM4xWGsPrfMsT5qBzd7kGKEFExOaP0tE3YEkNfv_yLK9wPz4U3cPob8zI$>
 and

The geoserver log shows a lot of "WARN [geotools.xsd] - Sax parser property
'http://www.oracle.com/xml/jaxp/properties/entityExpansionLimit<https://urldefense.us/v3/__http:/www.oracle.com/xml/jaxp/properties/entityExpansionLimit__;!!JRQnnSFuzw7wjAKq6ti6!xRAMWzeOSsebbxo_wxj6cFXfmiFO-3sM4xWGsPrfMsT5qBzd7kGKEFExOaP0tE3YEkNfv_yLK9wPz4U3suBD2Gk$>'
not recognized. Xerces version is incompatible." messages. Might there be a
connection to the above issue?

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you and best regards
Daniel
