Hi, I am not sure if it works with jetty, but with the tomcat, you can use the Java Management Extensions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_Management_Extensions) to take a deeply look into tomcat.
A short google search for jetty and jmx showed this result: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/JETTY/JMX This should work in every operating system, I think. You can connect to jmx using jconsole or jvisualm.
