Wouter,
this looks like a failure while importing the WFS 1.1 schemas (usually
bundled with GeoServer), while parsing a WFS 1.1 request. Do you have a
nonstandard WFS 1.1 schemaLocation in your XML request? Please provide
us the text of your WFS request.

Ahh, ok that could be issue. Unfortunately multiple versions of geoserver
don't play all that well in the same servlet container. Although I know
people have pulled it off before.
I would try separating them if possible and see if that fixes the problem.

If I enable CITE checks, I note that my layer name is invalid because it
contains underscores...
