I have the same problem. I am running geoserver 2.1.4 and sql server 2008 r2.
I can't figure out what to do. It's Ok with the shape file ,but as I import
shape file to sql server and create a new layer I can't see layer preview
and when I open the KML or GML I get a null exception error!

Hi, Andrea
We created the layer by adding a new resource, selecting our SQL
Server datastore (previously created) and selecting our layer. When we
did that, GeoServer did not load the native SRS, the native frames and
the feature type details. We attach an image with the result.
