Geographic Data Infrastructure Developer 

The person in this position will work with the GIS and Map Librarian to develop 
and update the Library's Geographic Information (GIS) and Map Collections 
website, and to design the search and discovery infrastructure and interface to 
the Library's Digital Map and Geographic Data Portal. 

The person will also help the GIS and Map Librarian to coordinate map 
digitization projects, assist with writing scripts to perform specialized GIS 
analysis, and develop geospatial web applications to view, analyze, and update 
geospatial information. 

This position is also responsible for helping to install, maintain, and update 
the Library's Digital Map and Geographic Data Portal software packages. This 
position requires close collaboration with the GIS and Map Librarian, GIS 
personnel at OIT, Library curators of historic map collections, and the Library 
Digital Initiatives Team. Collaboration with Library GIS Centers at peer 
institutions is also expected. This position reports to the Library Systems 
Office. This person will also be assigned other digital library projects as the 
need arises, especially once the core GIS Portal project winds down.   

Essential Qualifications Requirements: 

- Extensive web development experience; 
- Experience administrating, configuring, and customizing ArcSDE, GeoServer, or 
other open source GIS server software packages; 
- Programming skills in two or more of Python, PHP, Java and knowledge and 
experience with two or more of SQL, VB, XML, X-Query, Apache Tomcat, 
Solr/Lucene, Java, AJAX, and HTML/DHTML; 
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills; 
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively and respond quickly to 
changes in priorities. 
- Ability to interact well and effectively with the public, staff, and 
colleagues; excellent communication skills. 
- BA or BS from an accredited institution is required.   

Preferred Qualifications Preferred: 

Bachelor's degree in computer science; 
GIS and data visualization work; 
System administration experience for Windows Server; experience in software 
configuration and client-server architectures. Knowledge of Unix and Linux 
system administration; 
Project management experience, especially in library digitization 
Experience in library map collections and GIS dataset collection management and 
organization, especially in an academic or large research library
