A quick question - did you deploy the WAR version of Geoserver in Tomcat or did
you copy an existing Geoserver installation into Tomcat's webapps directory?
Because if you deployed Geoserver as a WAR then you wouldn't have another
webapps directory inside of the Geoserver directory. It's just...wrong.
I'd probably suggest starting from scratch, deploying a new WAR file and
looking at how it unpacks OR, if you want to run the standalone version then
it's probably not the best idea to do it from inside of the Tomcat directory;
try /usr/local/geoserver perhaps.
Try to be a little more descriptive in your subject - you will get more
