I've got the same error in Glassfish.
"Could not list layers for this store, an error occurred retrieving them:
This plugin accepts only File, URL and String pointing to a file"
Is there a solution for Oracle Glassfish server?

In case anyone else trips over this error.
Check that the directory and files are writeable by Geoserver...
It's a misleading error message because the actual
problem is that the files can't be created and then obviously not read.
Wasn't sure where to record this, so apologies for bumping an old thread.
Had the same issue with Geoserver (2.2) deployed on JBoss (5.1.0.GA). The
