The purpose of the URL was to test to see if your WMTS is working. If you
can see the XML, then it is.
What you need to do next depends entirely on what you want to do. If you
want an external application to use WMTS, then you use that URL (minus the
?request.. bit).

Ok, we seem to be talking at odds.
There is no WMTS set of settings. As I mentioned previously, to configure
anything for WMTS (and all tile based services) you need to use the Tile
Caching settings, at the bottom of your screenshot. Those configure all
the tile related stuff.
