The Department of Geography and Environment at Boston University invites
applications for a tenure track assistant professorship in environment and
development, with a Fall 2009 start date. We seek a scholar with research
and teaching interests at the interface among the economic, social and
environmental dimensions of development.
The ideal candidate will be a development scholar pursuing applied, policy
relevant and environmentally-related research, and who is looking to work
in an interdisciplinary setting. Research interests may include, but are
not limited to: the environmental impacts of economic growth in developing
countries; the impacts of changes in environmental quality on the economic
and social characteristics of developing areas; the interactions between
development and markets for energy and non-energy resources; or the
drivers, consequences and implications of climate change, deforestation,
and land use and land cover change.
Candidates should have a commitment to teaching and research, and a desire
to work in an interdisciplinary setting. Opportunities for collaboration
exist with colleagues in affiliated departments and research centers
including the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies, the Department
of Economics, the School of Public Health, the Frederick S. Pardee Center
for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, and the Department of
International Relations at Boston University.
