Gimp cannot open a D800 NEF image (36 MP) (fuzzy static), partially opens a
D610 image (24 MP).
It is able to open a D7000 (16.7MP), D300, D50 NEF images fine.
When the D800 image is converted to TIFF with dcraw, the TIFF of course
opens fine.
Windows 8.1 64bit 16G RAM etc.

You need to use ufraw which has a a gimp plugin
I don't think you need to lecture Partha about UFRaw :) He's been
using it for years.
