Yes, that's it. Previously I selected the whole sheet. Then I
took a piece of the foreground only.

I have installed
GIMP (gtk+2.6.7-setup2 and gimp-2.2.8-i586-setup) on a Windows XP PRO PC.
The problem I have
is that when I try to save the .xcf image (whichever image in gimp
format) in a different format, e.g. jpg, bmp, eps, etc., the "save as" windows
freezes, the file is
