Sorry, the first criteria should have read as follows:
1) The image that contains your "mask layer" must be opened. The Move Path
plugin DOES NOT look for files on your disk, they must be opened.

Is there some sort of organized to way to find out how a script works,
what it does, and how to use it? Mostly I just use a combination of
google searches, source diving, and blind experiment to try to figure
