Forgive me if this is a daft question but..
I'm a GIMP newbie but have used stuff like PSP and photoshop. My
understanding was that plugins were precompiled and placed into some
'plugin directory' that way it gets loaded dynamically. Surely this
mechanism is in Gimp?

I was hoping not to have to compile it (my machine gets hammered all the
time at work when compiling other stuff, and besides, compiling GIMP
would be frowned upon ).
