not sure what caused these troubles - but in case you use WinZip
to unpack the bundle, make absolutely sure that you uncheck its
'clever' CR/LF treatment of .tar files (uncheck the option in
Options - Configuration.)
If this doesn't apply, perhaps /home (or /usr/local) is a
binary mount?
