Thanks, Andy. I didn't notice the vertical lines. That time, I was
replying via the group's site where, until now, I never had a problem. Of
course, here in Gmail, there are no vertical lines to be an issue.

Also, how do I get a Google shortcut for Chrome? I wanted to do what you

I use Archive all the time -- it just doesn't help for this particular
situation. Because a new message for an archived conversation brings the
conversation back to the Inbox, I had to *visually* distinguish between new
conversations and old conversations with new
