didn't want to have two accounts for the same purpose, but I think it will
be the only option :(

No I don't think this is possible but once you have an Apps account you
will be able to ask Google for support.
What I would do is either setup the new one to fetch your mails from the
gmail.com account using POP, or connect a 3rd party client such as Mozilla

Hi!
I want to know if its possible to "upgrade" a @gmail.com account to use a
custom domain ala google apps. Since I want to have my email with a custom
domain (with mail aliases too) but I already have everything on my @gmail
account, so I want to treat both as the same.
