Earlier today I committed an updated gtk+ translation to the gtk-2-10
branch of the gtk+/po module. I did so by committing the changes to the
gtk+/branches/gtk-2-10/po. Is this the correct way of committing to
branches other than trunk?

Sure, anything that could help rtl languages is ok in my book :)
experience is already scarce here so putting people together is a good
thing.
