No such problems on arch.
One of the reasons I moved away from ubuntu was the bad Gnome-Shell
integration (only using heavy patched Gnome-Software), I can imagine is it
still as bad.

It's really useful when you quickly put the terminal on top of the browser and
type stuff based on whats underneath.

I run a mixture of programs designed for different desktops on
Gnome-Shell, things from gnome, mate, xfce, kde, etc...
