Without "--enable-python-bindings", SWIG_PYTHON_OPTS in src/optional/python-
bindings/Makefile is the null string. In this case, the swig command creating
gnucash_core.c from gnucash_core.i seems to create tcl bindings. In my case,

1) 'make check', 'make dist' and 'make distcheck' all work
2) Because I am having problems with the python bindings, I removed the
directory from src/optional/Makefile.am, so they won't be built

Thanks for your response.
I learnt just enough scheme to throw this report together ;-) Though it
has been tough going at times.
You don't have to use git, but probably the easiest way of experimenting
and sharing changes would be to clone my git repo on github, grab a free
