That's interesting. What is the path that's causing trouble with 3.5, and
please remind me what OS you're using.

Finder displays that option only when the current directory is your home
directory. That's the one in Users named after your user-id.
I see that you've installed GnuCash and Finance Quote Update to the MacintoshHD
directory, aka root. This is unwise, you should move them to some subdirectory.
There's a problem with 3.5 where it won't save to the usual location that I
have saved the file to when I was using 2.6.x For some reason 3.5 has a
problem with path length. I never had a problem with 2.6.21, I just
thought I should keep up to the latest in case I wanted to ask for help
with it.

Dennis,
Along with the possibility that your results are filtered by exclusion by a
date setting other possibilities to check are whether you are opening the
same file. GnuCash creates a copy of the data file as a backup each time it
is opened and also creates a log file (see
If you don't mind my asking, why are you downgrading? What have you found
that you prefer in 2.6.21?

If the parent totals reflect the ‘missing’ transactions try using the Find
feature to locate them. Are you using a filtered view of your registers?

Hi, All,
I am working in version 3.5 and having difficulties keeping my data. What do I
mean? I enter the values in my different accounts and save them as I go. The
next day when I go to open the saved file, all my accounts, except the parent
accounts reflecting account totals, have none of the
Hi John - when I follow your directions and use “show view options” I don’t
find any option of show library file. Perhaps I’m not looking in the correct
place. In Finder, I use the find command which open a box, which I presume is
my home directory, click on the “gear”, and select “show view
Haven't tested this with the SQLite GnuCash backend, but it is
sometimes possible with PostgreSQL to "roll back" to an earlier state
before the last transactions, or for that matter, any arbitrary number
of transactions before the last one. I haven't used the PostgreSQL
backend with GnuCash for
Reply All rather than Reply. Some email defaults to Reply, which only goes
to the original poster, no the entire list. Very annoying for all involved,
but changing the settings only seems to work for a short while.
Would it work to go by date, one file per year or even quarter or month,
instead instead of by account?
Pros:
- Transactions with multiple accounts (eg transfers or "gift card + cash")
get done in the same session.
- Less confusion as to what's been done over multiple sessions.

Hi,
I've done some work in 3.5 and I'm considering downgrading to 2.6.21.
Can 2.6.21 work with the xml .gnucash file once it was changed and saved by
3.5?
Kind regards,
Greg

Is it using Retained Earnings for uncategorized transactions?
Quicken used to have a report for uncategorized transactions. Years ago
when I tried to convert (then life got busy), uncategorized transactions

That makes sense.
I know with some versions of SQL, you can roll-back. I suspect that each of
the three versions GNUCash supports does it differently, sigh. If I do use
SQL, I'll treat it like my novel. Dated daily backups, and add good title
and change log when I make major changes. Not that I

Assuming the CSS parser is obeying the rules, it should make no
difference whatsoever whether the line end
How did you successfully reconcile without selecting that transaction?
The ending balance should not have matched.

Art,
I offered a simple definition of retained earnings in a previous reply. Did you
not see that message?
Anyhow,
A simple test would verify a bug or (inadvertent) user-error.
Delete the imported transactions. (all copies)
Then try the import again and this time, paying extra careful
