It is a known bug that was fixed for v3.8.
If you can’t upgrade for some reason, there is a manual fix you can apply by
editing a special GnuCash file.
Edit /usr/share/gnucash/gtkbuilder/dialog-search.glade and change the value in
line 305 (the expand property) to True. When you're done it

That seems like a useful strategy. You may be able to get more information
about what is happening if you examine the trace file
(https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile se the MacOSX section) immediately
after running Gnucash on a restored copy of the file. AFAIK it is
overwritten each

The odd thing is that it started happening recently, so something
