Thanks for moving it somewhere clearer. I'm surprised more people don't
want this feature, it's bog standard in most programs I use every day.
Thanks for your help!

Michael,
I take your point; we users will often create duplicated file names for
different content. I believe that many users only keep one set of books. I
don't have any statistics on general GnuCash usage to be able to say whether
more users have one file or many.
However, given that

This is an interesting, but misleading point in this case, given that this

The problem with doing too many currency lookups in a short time should be
fixed in

will be.
The last part of the fix was committed on Mar 22, see

When I import the transactions from my bank using QFX, the small interest
transactions are not appearing in the import screen? The amounts are usually

Start with the trace file (https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile). There
should be error messages and maybe
Environment: Version: 3.10
Build ID: 3.10+(2020-04-11)

I'd like to share with you all how I do this. I have an account called
"Exchanges", with sub-accounts representing different people or groups
(Exchanges:Bob, etc).
When I loan someone money, I enter this as a credit to this account, so
it's black if they owe me, and enter it as a debit when they
I seem to recall seeing a bug on this, but you might want to check Bugzilla to
be sure. If it isn’t there, please file one. The counters should increment on
using the ’New’ or ‘Duplicate’ functions.

Long,
Along with what Michael advised, you can do this with one extra account, or
two. The choice is yours. I’m going to use very general account names, but you
could use ‘Owed to me’ or ‘Given to me’ if you like
Two accounts model:

I agree that the setting sounds broken in Rich's case, although it's generally
worked for me.
However, the preference setting and storage location of log files is comparing
apples and oranges, regardless of whether the setting works or not. Many people

Hello,
I use the counters feature for invoices and bills. The behaviour I am used to
is that cloning or creating a new bill/invoice auto increments the number:
I-00296 > I-00297
B-00179 > B-00180
etc.
I updated to GC 3.10 recently. These numbers no longer increment; for example
