understood it after help from the community and twigging to turning off the
white background colour for the cells on the page. It would be

Edit-> Preferences-> Register and in the Graphics section , then check "Use the
GNuCash built - in Color theme will bring back the GnuCash default colors. If
that is checked it may be the CSS is overriding that as well.
