That's not always the case. Some brokerages (Schwab, for example) pull the
money into an account directly, from which shares are purchased at some later
date. It's essentially a cash based asset account, but it doesn't appear

It appears that Income accounts cannot have a stock account type (so cannot

Would have to fake it by selling the stock (in 'from' account) to get cash,

I don't think so - there is nothing about sorting in the report options.

I don't understand. Are you saying that splits are disappearing from your

This problem seems to be caused by the latest update (5.6) .I import
direct from a bank and got the same error message but when I used an
earlier version (5.4) transactions imported OK. Problem has been reported
in another thread.

no, though that’s a good idea. My main concern is that the splits disappear.
Hence gnu is not remembering them. I would expect to need to change them once
and be done for another year.

Phyllis,
I periodically assess, as you are doing now, whether there is a better
workflow to meet my personal needs. My experience has been that the best
solution depends on specifics of the situation, which will change when the
bank changes their software, etc., hence it is very dynamic. My solu
Bryan, I believe "something" is purchased when you move money into an IRA.
For me, it's a money market fund with the share price a constant $1.

Just to pick a nit: it was referred to as the MICR line (Magnetic Ink Character

I've tried several different methods to export a .qif file from quicken and
import it into GnuCash.
The process of importing the file goes fine until I reach the part where
the actual import occurs. Then I get this type of message:

Is there a way to sort the Income Statement-Multicolumn by acct code?
That would save some time setting up the several reports.

I am not really knowledgeable in this area (or many other areas, to be honest),
but I found the following discussion (in a Quicken forum) that might lead you

Hmmm, I don't do "electronic" payments or deposits. But thenn, I've
never been hacked ;) MICR is still a thing because The Fed requires
it. Lots of MICR toner cartridges for sale online. I have 2 MICR toner
cartridges that came with a printer I bought via a local Craigslist.
