Hi, I am getting this same message, but I cannot locate an .LCK or .LNK file in the relevant folder.
I moved my files from an old laptop to a new one, by simply copying them and then installing the program on the new computer. I opened GnuCash after transferring the files with no problem. Since then, however, I get this "could not obtain the lock" message, and if I click on "Open Anyway" it will not exit cleanly, it asks me to save the file as a new file. Which I have declined to do because i don't know if that will mess things up. I read this thread and looked for the lock files to delete, don't see them.
