I'm wondering if anyone else would find it useful, or if anyone else has
already suggested an enhancement to GnuCash whereby it would display a list
of memorized transactions when one was being entered.
Currently if I start typing in the description field GC finishes the field
and if I hit tab it a

Thanks for the suggestion but the TMX module is already listed in Quote.pm.
It existed before I started so there must be some other way GnuCash decides
whether a module is available for use or not... I just don't know how.
Thanks again,
Gord

Hi All,
I've been playing with the Perl module for the Toronto Stock Exchange
(TMX.pm) and think I may have it working again.
I'd like to try it in GnuCash but the option to select it as a source in
the securities editor is grayed out. Does anyone know how to re-enable that
option?
Thanks,
Gord

Thanks to all that replied.
I have set it up as 'last day of the month', that's one of the options,
because it is an expense. I'll have to remember, or better yet, add a
comment that says something like "change the date to the real date before
posting". It's not a huge problem but an interesting si

With this timing, the transaction does not occur on a specific date in the

Thanks David, you always give me lots to think about. As of right now, the
data is purely for my own consumption so I don't really have any tax
implications to worry about, but I may follow your advice just in case.

Thanks for the explanation.
I was trying to follow the example in Chapter 11 of the GnuCash
Documentation that seems to indicate the unrealized capital gains are
recorded in Assets:Fixed Assets... and I would record a transfer from
Income:Unrealized Gains...
However, I didn't understand how to reco
Are capital gains (and losses), both realized and unrealized, always
recorded as income, both positive and negative?
Thanks.

OK, it's starting to sink in, slowly.
I read chapter 11 in the GC documentation (I didn't realize I was asking
about Capital Gains) and used the example to create the accounts and
transactions in my own accounts. It seems to work... like magic.
I'll have to think about it some more and will probabl
I'm unsure of the best way to record the adding/modifying of an asset.
Should the transaction go directly to an asset account or an expense

I'm trying to understand this report and it just isn't working the way I
expect.
Below is a screenshot of my test chart of accounts, for reference.

Thank you very much to all that replied. There are, obviously, a lot of

First off I'll say I have no formal accounting training so I don't really
understand accounting terminology or how it is represented in GnuCash.
I understand the basic idea that Equity = Assets - Liabilities, but I'm
unsure how this should be entered in GnuCash.
Specifically, my question is; how
Is anyone using the stock quotes in GnuCash from the TSX (Toronto Stock

I can not get it to work.
I have it working from Yahoo but not the TSX.
I tried testing it using gnc-fq-dump and did not have any more luck. It
seems to work if I use Yahoo but not the TSX. I don't know what I'm doin
I would be happy to open a bug report but I have no idea how to do it.
Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks to all that commented on this and thanks to the '/tmp/gnucash.trace'

Thanks for the reply.
When I go to 'save as' the Data Format drop-down only has XML as an option,
unlike my Windows version that has Mysql and others.
I installed the Linux version using apt so I did not build it myself.
Perhaps the official package was built without this support? If so, would I

Hi List,
I'm trying to find a replacement for Quicken and brand new to GnuCash, so
please excuse any protocol errors I may generate. ;)
I'm wondering if it's possible in GnuCash to attach multiple files to one
transaction record (like I can do in Quicken).
Most of the files I would want to attach
