I can confirm at least on Windows & v4.5 that "Never" will create log files
but not backups.
"Forever" never deletes anything.
And yes they will only get cleared the next time you run GnuCash

preferences but I'm still getting a log file created every time I run
Gnucash.
I'm running GnuCash 3.10, Build ID: 3.10+(2020-04-11) on Xubuntu Linux.
