I would step a little bit further back and ask the OP to describe a little more fully his setup, especially with regards to the folder on which he has previously stored his data. It seems possible that his data is stored in a location that is currently not available. Similarly, perhaps there are

Per #3, on Jan 2, did you start GnuCash by: A) Opening GnuCash and letting *it* open your most recently used file. B) Double-clicking your intended file which will (allegedly) start GnuCash with the specified file. Option A *should* have opened the most recent file which *should* have been the
